HOW TO TRANSPORT A PIANO SAFELY

When we have to move, we are tempted to personally take care of the transport of the objects most dear to us, precisely because we fear that a stranger might not understand their value and therefore not dedicate particular care to them. Among the many objects that, together with us, change homes, there are some for which our determination and our affection are not enough.

Imagine for a moment that you have to move your piano ! It is certainly not one of the most easily managed personal items!

If you own one, you know exactly what we are talking about! It’s not just any piece of furniture, and not even a simple sofa or a comfortable armchair! A piano is the music you have inside, the most intimate part of you that is transformed into a symphony.

And the first impulse would be to put it on your shoulders and, step by step, take it with you to your new apartment. Let’s look into each other’s eyes… it’s just a dream! It is not a dream, however, to carefully and shrewdly choose the people who can carry out the complicated task of moving a piano for you, with the same attention that you would take in doing it yourself.

Without a shadow of a doubt, you will have to carefully evaluate the characteristics of the moving company you intend to contact. Because an excellent service comes from attention to many small details which, if satisfied, make a person happy.

Regardless of the affective charge, the piano is a valuable object, whether it is a grand piano or an upright piano, an ancient or a more modern piano. For this reason, the piano transport service has become a real sector of specialization over time; not everyone, in fact, is able to carry it out with the necessary skills. Few companies know how to deal with it with professionalism, accuracy and attention. In the first place, it is necessary to be supplied with suitable equipment and to make use of trained and competent personnel.

THE WEIGHT AND DIMENSIONS OF A PIANO

These are the two main problems: for example, upright pianos can exceed 200 kg, while baby grand and grand pianos can weigh up to 500 kg

VALUABLE MATERIALS AND DELICATE MECHANISMS

The piano is a musical instrument made up of valuable materials and, internally, extremely delicate and fragile mechanisms which, if treated superficially, risk being seriously damaged.

TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY

The piano is an instrument made of wood and, as such, is affected by the external temperature and humidity: it is therefore recommended to transport it during mid-season and on non-rainy days, to avoid the risk of the wood becoming deformed. Fundamental, in this case, are the means of transport insulated or equipped with humidifiers/dehumidifiers.

PACKAGING

A very delicate moment. The packing of the piano must be carried out by specialized personnel who know all the operations of preparation and construction: the instrument must be lightened of the removable parts and then protected with shockproof packing material, paying particular attention to the corners and the most fragile parts.

TRANSPORT OUTDOOR

Here is the most dreaded phase, that of the piano leaving your apartment! The most difficult element to deal with are the stairs: to overcome the steps, the technicians will use the most suitable equipment for the situation (special harnesses, sledges or pianoplans). Last but not least, the positioning of the instrument in its new corner of the house: quiet, perfect, without any hiccups!

In short, an operation, that of moving a piano, worthy of a real team of specialists, at the service of the safety and tranquility of its customers!

Transporting a piano safely, and without nasty surprises, is not everyone’s business!
